Comprehensive Structural Assessment and Safety Support
During a major renovation project in Erdington, Birmingham, our team uncovered serious safety concerns with an old chimney.
Previous builders had incorrectly used wood in key structural areas instead of proper lintels, RSJs, or gallows brackets. To address this, we carefully supported the surrounding walls and floor structure before commencing safe removal work.
Safe Chimney Dismantling and Inner Wall Rebuild
We professionally dismantled the unsafe chimney and rebuilt the inner skin of the wall using correct masonry techniques. Where necessary, we installed steel lintels and RSJs to ensure robust structural integrity and long-term safety.
Kitchen Structural Upgrades
The renovation also involved installing new joists in the kitchen to replace or reinforce the existing floor structure, ensuring stability and compliance with building regulations.
Doorway Modifications for Improved Layout
To improve the kitchen and living room layout, we bricked up the old doorway between these rooms and knocked out a new opening. A steel lintel was installed above the new doorway to provide proper support and maintain structural safety.
