Drainage Fix and Pipe Lining Repair in Birmingham

At TessCon, we were recently called to a property in Birmingham where the customer was experiencing severe drainage issues — their cellar was regularly filling with waste water due to multiple breaks and cracks in the existing waste pipe. Traditional repair methods would have required extensive excavation, but our team proposed a more efficient, non-invasive solution: pipe lining repair.

Understanding the Problem

Upon inspection, our drainage specialists identified several damaged sections in the underground pipework. These breaks were causing waste water to back up and overflow, leading to repeated flooding in the customer’s cellar. To fix this issue permanently and without major disruption, we implemented a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining system — a modern “pipe within a pipe” solution.

How the Pipe Lining Process Works

The pipe lining repair process is a trenchless technology that allows us to restore damaged pipes from the inside. Here’s how it works:

  • Cleaning and Inspection: We began by thoroughly cleaning the existing pipe to remove any debris or blockages. A high-definition camera inspection was then carried out to assess the full extent of the damage and capture precise measurements.
  • Liner Insertion: A flexible liner, impregnated with a resin-based epoxy, was inserted into the existing pipe using air pressure. This liner is carefully positioned to cover all damaged areas.
  • Curing: Once in place, the liner was cured and hardened to form a strong, seamless inner layer. Depending on site conditions, this curing can be achieved through hot water, air, UV, or LED light methods.
  • Completion: After curing, the new lining created a durable, watertight “pipe within a pipe” — restoring full structural integrity and eliminating leaks or breaks.

The Benefits of Pipe Lining Repair

  • Non-Invasive: No need for costly or disruptive excavation work.
  • Cost-Effective: Reduces labour, equipment, and reinstatement costs compared to traditional replacements.
  • Quick Turnaround: Most projects can be completed within a day or two.
  • Minimal Disruption: Ideal for homes and businesses, as it avoids unnecessary property damage.
  • Long-Lasting Results: The new internal lining restores flow and prevents future leaks or failures.

Project Outcome

The installation was completed smoothly, with no digging required. The client’s drainage system was fully restored, and the recurring cellar flooding problem was resolved permanently. This project highlights the effectiveness of trenchless pipe lining technology for both domestic and commercial drainage repairs in Birmingham and across the Midlands.
