At TessCon, we were recently called to a property in Solihull where the customer was struggling with persistent leaks around the perimeter parapet wall and coping stones.
The issue was caused by poorly installed EPDM rubber roofing and badly fitted stonework from a previous builder.
Without a watertight seal, water was entering around the edges and compromising the integrity of the roof.
Identifying the Problem
Upon inspection, we found several key problems:
- EPDM rubber roofing had not been extended over the parapet, leaving gaps vulnerable to water ingress.
- Coping stones were incorrectly fitted and inadequately sealed.
- Pointing and lead work were substandard, allowing further water penetration.
Our Professional Solution
To resolve the issues and restore the roof’s durability, TessCon carried out a comprehensive repair and restoration:
- Removed the poorly fitted EPDM rubber roof and all coping stones.
- Installed new EPDM membrane and slate, properly extending coverage over the parapet wall.
- Re-laid the coping stones securely, using lime mix for long-lasting stability.
- Re-pointed the walls to improve both appearance and weatherproofing.
- Re-did all lead work to the correct standard, ensuring a watertight seal.
The Result
The roof is now completely watertight and structurally secure, with professional workmanship ensuring it will perform for years to come.
