Why mop roll lead
Lead wood roll mop sticks are ideal where a traditional jointed appearance is favoured. They provide the former for the roll capping on flat and pitched areas and are equally suitable on steep pitches or lead cladding.
Aside from looking right on period homes, the roll detail manages water effectively and reduces wind-lift along hips and arrises.
How we carried out the work
- Carefully stripped the failed coverings and inspected the deck.
- Installed new underlay and battens, set out tile gauges for even coursing.
- Fixed 50 mm timber mop rolls to the hip/arrise line and formed the matching lead rolls.
- Bossed and dressed code-appropriate lead to the apron, corners and upstands; chased step flashings into the brickwork with lead wedges and sealed.
- Retiled the bays with clay plain tiles, trimming neatly around the roll.
- Applied patination oil and final checks for even drips, laps and clip spacing.
Result
- Watertight bay roof with crisp roll-top lead detailing
- Detailing complements the original brick and stone features
- Long-lasting, low-maintenance solution installed by fully qualified, highly experienced leadworkers
